The Ultimate Leg Day Workout Guide for Size and Strength

Legs make up the largest muscle mass in your body, and training them hard drives whole-body strength, athleticism and even hormonal response. Skipping leg day leaves serious results on the table.

Hit every muscle group

A complete leg day trains quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves:

  • Squats — quads and glutes
  • Romanian deadlifts — hamstrings and glutes
  • Leg press — quad volume
  • Walking lunges — unilateral strength
  • Leg curls — hamstring isolation
  • Calf raises — calves

Sets and reps

Start with a heavy compound (squat or leg press) for 4 sets of 6-10 reps, then add accessory work in the 10-15 range. Aim for 14-20 weekly sets across your leg muscles.

Don't fear soreness

Legs often get the most sore because they're worked less frequently. Ease in with manageable volume, and recovery (sleep, protein, rest) is where the growth happens.

The takeaway

Train quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves with heavy compounds plus accessories, and progress steadily. Powerful legs anchor a powerful physique.
